2013-2014 Ohio Cheerleading Tryouts
ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University cheerleading team has positions available for the co-ed team. There are 14 positions for males and 14 positions for females.
The team will cheer at all football games, Men's and Women's home basketball games, as well as, all postseason games.
All athletes must be Ohio University students or incoming freshman accepted to the University. Proof of acceptance to the University must be shown at tryouts. In addition, athletes will be required to provide a copy of insurance and a physical within the previous six months (NCAA requirement).
Time commitment and expectations:
Must attend all games listed above, practice three times per week, two lifting sessions per week plus additional appearances and events. The team will attend a mandatory summer camp in August, as well as, return two weeks prior to the first football game. All team members are expected to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0, must be registered as a full-time student (minimum of 12 hours) and are held to student-athlete standards given by Ohio University.
Attire:
Females: T-shirts (tucked in) and shorts. Ohio colors (green/white, black is also acceptable). Hair half up with green/white/black bow in hair. Athletic shoes and no jewelry.
Males: T-shirts (tucked in) and shorts. Ohio colors (green/white, black is also acceptable). Athletic shoes and NO jewelry.
Cost: There is a $25 fee per person. Fee must be paid at tryouts (cash or check made to Ohio Cheerleading).
What to bring with you to tryouts:
Current students at Ohio University - Student Identification Card, spring quarter class schedule (proof of 12 credit hours), Insurance Card, Proof of physical within last 6 months.
Incoming freshman to Ohio University - Acceptance letter to Ohio University, Insurance Card, Proof of physical within last 6 months.
Ohio Cheerleading specific tryout information:
Females are expected to have the following skills:
- Standing back tuck
- Standing back handspring tuck
- Two running passes - MINIMUM round-off back tuck
- Toss extension full down
- Two elite stunts (Difficulty is built into the score)
Females will learn a band dance during tryouts.
Males trying out are not required or expected to have experience, but are expected to be athletic. Males and females will learn a cheer and will be expected to perform during the final tryout. Interview portion of the tryout will be held on Sunday during final tryouts.
Dates & Times:
Friday, May 10
Registration, 6:00-6:30pm
Mandatory First Tryout - 6:30-9:30pm
- This is mandatory for all athletes, and will include tumbling and stunting (Cuts will be made following this portion of the tryout). Following tumbling and stunting will be teaching of the cheer and band dance.
Saturday, May 11
- This is for athletes who have been invited back from Friday’s tryout. This day will include, tumbling, stunting, and review of cheer/band dance for tryout on Sunday.
Second Round of Tryouts: 9:00am-12:00pm
FINAL TRYOUT: Begins at 3pm. There will be warm-ups from 3:00-3:30pm.

**Two clinics leading up to tryouts will be available for any individual wishing to tryout for the 2013-2014 Ohio Cheerleading Team
