ATHENS, Ohio -
Mandatory clinics for Ohio Cheerleading spring tryouts begin Friday, May 5, at 6:00 p.m. in the Convocation Center and continue through Saturday, May 6, with tryouts on Sunday, May 7, at 8 a.m. Any current Ohio University students who are interested in becoming part of the varsity cheerleading program are invited to attend.
"Tryouts are for both males and females, flyers and bases," said cheerleading director Tricia Perry. "All participants need to show up in proper attire, which includes cheer shoes, shorts, fitted shirts, no jewelry or lotion, and long hair pulled up."
The clinics will prepare participants for all tryout requirements: tumbling, stunting, cheer, dance and interview. The squad will perform at all Bobcat football and home basketball games during the 2006-07 school year and will compete in the 2007 Cheerleading Nationals.
For the first time, incoming freshmen will be permitted to take part in the spring clinics and tryouts providing they: bring a copy of their acceptance letter to Ohio University, sign an agreement to attend a Thursday-Sunday practice session later this spring, sign an agreement to return to campus for one week during the summer for cheer camp, and sign an agreement to return to campus two weeks prior to the start of classes in the fall (housing is not provided).
There will also be a tryout in the fall for incoming freshmen and any other current students interested in becoming an Ohio cheerleader.
