ATHENS, Ohio - Over 100 Ohio student-athletes had the opportunity to personally thank contributors of the Ohio Bobcat Club for their continued support during the 2012 Student-Athlete Thank-a-Thon.
The event took place from March 28-29 at Peden Stadium and included representatives from every one of Ohio's 16 varsity teams. The student-athlete representatives placed calls and in some instances, wrote personalized letters, to members of the Ohio Bobcat Club.
"The goal of this initiative is to give our student-athletes the opportunity to call and thank individuals and families who have made a donation to Ohio Athletics in the past 12 months," said Assistant Athletics Director for Annual Giving Rob Norris. "Whether they have donated $50 or $10,000, we tried to thank every donor in some way for their contributions."
The Thank-a-Thon gave student-athletes a unique chance to reach out to donors, as well as an educational experience regarding the importance and impact of private support at Ohio University. In total, 1,200 phone calls were made and 450 notes were written by 94 Bobcat student-athletes, making this the largest undertaking of this nature by Ohio Athletics on record.
"It's always enjoyable to reach out to the people, who make our student-athlete experience possible at Ohio University," said Student-Athlete Advisory President Jordan Thompson. "The lessons we have learned in the classroom and on the field are ones that we will remember forever and we just wanted to say thank you."
