ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio athletics Assistant Athletic Director of Equipment Services Matt Morton was named the 2017 Tony Anderson Award Winner by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association announced the organization Tuesday.
The award is issued each year as the highest honor given to a member of District V and is named after the late Tony Anderson of Indiana University
"It is an absolute honor to receive this award from my District 5 colleagues,” said Morton. “The network of equipment managers that we have in District 5 is one of the best, if not the best, in the country. Since my first day on the job, I've been able to reach out to anyone in our District for tips, guidance, and tricks of the trade. Always accessible, always honest. It makes coming to what can be a stressful and hectic job a little less overwhelming knowing you've got folks like that in your corner willing to lend a helpful hand, ear, or share a good story to keep things in perspective."

He is a valued member of the OHIO Athletics staff who has demonstrated a strong and selfless commitment to the student-athletes and coaches that he serves," said Amy Dean, Deputy Athletics Director and Senior Women's Administrator. "It’s nice to see that his efforts and professionalism are both recognized and appreciated by his peers.”
Morton just completed his 12th year on staff with Ohio and just completed his third season as Assistant Athletic Director. Morton oversees the equipment operations for the Bobcats and manages the day-to-day equipment needs for all teams housed in Peden Stadium.
"I've also been blessed to work with great mentors, coaches, student-athletes, assistants and student-managers throughout my time here at OHIO,” added Morton. “It's truly an honor to work for my alma mater and have the opportunity to contribute to the success we've had here at OHIO."
Working primarily with football, Morton supervises a staff made up of interns, graduate, and student assistants who also work with the Field Hockey, Women's Track & Field, Men's and Women's Cross Country, and Swimming & Diving teams.
The purpose of The Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) is to promote, advance, and improve the Equipment Managers Profession in all of its many phases. One goal is to work as a group to bring about equipment improvements for the greater safety of all participants in sports and recreation. Members of the AEMA enjoy the opportunity to meet fellow equipment managers at convention, share ideas, and learn more efficient techniques to help improve their work place.
