Ohio Athletics Mourns Loss of Longtime Team Doctor Steve Carin

ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio Athletics lost one of its own last weekend, with the passing of longtime team doctor Steven Carin at age 67.


A graduate of Elyria High School, Ohio Northern University and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, Carin was a physician for more than 35 years. He had been in private practice in Newcomerstown and has been at the Ohio University Osteopathic Medicine College and University Medical Associates, as a professor and physician since 1980. He has served as the team physician for Ohio Athletics for 27 years.


“Dr. Carin was a generous friend to our department,” said Ohio Assistant AD for Sports Medicine John Bowman. “He provided excellent care and support to our student-athletes. He was also a great friend to our coaches and was a wonderful mentor to our sports medicine staff.”


The department’s strength and conditioning center was named in his and wife Kathy’s honor during a dedication on Nov. 12, 1999. Carin also He also served the university as a member of the Foundation Board of Trustees and the Athletics Major Gifts Committee.
