ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio University Athletics has named Michael Stephens as its Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations. His first official day will be on June 16. The announcement was made today by Director of Athletics Jim Schaus.

"My wife Lisa, the boys and I are excited about joining the Athens community and we are proud to be part of the Bobcat family," Stephens said. "There is great momentum right now on campus and I look forward to working with Jim (Schaus), the athletics team, University administration and Bobcat fans as we work together to reach even greater heights."

In his new position, Stephens will oversee Ohio Athletics' marketing, ticket operations, media relations, multimedia marketing, broadcasting and serve as the department's liaison with Ohio IMG Sports Marketing.

"I am very excited about welcoming Michael Stephensto coordinate our external operations," Schaus said. "Michael has a wealth of experience from his years coordinating marketing at Nebraska and work in professional baseball. He is very energetic, creative and personable. He is a tremendous addition to our management team. We welcome him and his family to Ohio."

Stephens arrives in Athens following a 12-year tenure in the University of Nebraska Athletics Department where he most recently served as the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Licensing - a role he has held since the fall of 2008.

During his time in Lincoln, Stephens was responsible for more than $20 million dollars in revenue. This past season, Stephens developed the "Season One" season ticket campaign for the men's basketball team, which sold out Nebraska's Pinnacle Bank Arena for the entire 2013-14 season.

In his previous role at Nebraska, Stephens led a marketing department of seven full-time staff members. He also was responsible for ticket marketing, game-day promotions, concessions, the Spirit Squad and the Huskers Authentic Team Store.

Stephens also worked with Husker IMG Sports Marketing, serving as the athletic department's primary liaison to its media rights partner. In addition, he directed the licensing program and worked closely with the Huskers.com staff to integrate marketing into the athletic department website and social media accounts. He also co-chaired the marketing and communications strategic planning committee that formulated and implemented Nebraska's recruiting, marketing and communications plan.

Stephens joined the Husker staff as the Director of Licensing in 2002. He added the titles of Director of Concessions in 2005 and Director of Corporate Marketing in 2007.

Before joining the Nebraska staff, he spent two years as the manager of Corporate Sponsorship Sales with the Kansas City Royals. Prior to joining the big club in Kansas City, Stephens spent eight years with the Omaha Royals.

A native of Omaha, Neb., Stephens earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in 1991 and a master's degree from Western Illinois in 1994. Stephens and his wife, Lisa, have two sons, Trevor and Andrew.
