ATHENS, Ohio - Members of Ohio University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be raising money for the Dan Lowe Scholarship Fund from 5-9 p.m. on Monday, June 5, at Cold Stone Creamery in uptown Athens.

Several members of the civic-minded group will be mixing and serving treats at the 8 North Court Street ice cream shop. Half of the money raised will go directly to the Dan Lowe Memorial Scholarship Fund to honor the late Bobcat fan and Ohio Athletics staff member who passed away unexpectedly last June.

SAAC already held a similar event at Cold Stone last Tuesday that raised money for the Coach Toadvine Endowed Scholarship, which was established in memory of the former Ohio student-athlete and long-time assistant baseball coach. Bill Toadvine succumbed to the effects of lung cancer on Nov. 15, 2005.

"Our student-athletes love doing events like these," said academic services coordinator Becca Hubbard, who serves as the SAAC advisor. "They get to actually mix the treats themselves so it's a lot of fun for everyone.

"We're raising money for two individuals who were very near and dear to Ohio Athletics so I hope a lot of people come out to support us. It's truly a great excuse to have some ice cream."
