Bobcat Physician Honored by Ohio Athletic Trainers Association

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Dr. Ray Tesner, Ohio's Head Team Physician, was recently honored with the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association Team Physician Award at the organization's annual symposium in Columbus. Tesner has been a member of the Bobcats' medical staff since 1988.

The OATA 's Team Physician Award recognizes doctors for their outstanding service and commitment to the health and safety of student-athletes. Tesner was honored along with Dr. Grant Jones of Ohio State University and Dr. James Klosterman of the University of Dayton.

Dr. Tesner is an orthopaedic surgeon and founded SportsMedicine GRANT & Orthopaedic Associates, an Ohio-based practice focusing on treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of sports-related injuries, in 1985. He currently serves as the organization's Medical Director. Dr. Tesner is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine and the Ohio Orthopaedic Institute.

In addition to his duties with Ohio Athletics, Dr. Tesner serves as the the team physician for the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League, the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League and several Central Ohio High Schools. Dr. Tesner also serves as a second opinion consultant to the National Football League.

Dr. Tesner has also served as Team Physician to the two-time American Basketball League Champion Columbus Quest, the U.S. Olympic Ski Jump team, the U.S. Olympic Training Center, the U.S. Olympic Nordic Combined Team, the Columbus Xoggz of the U.S.International Soccer League, the Columbus Chill of the East Coast Hockey League, the Columbus Horizon of the Continental Basketball Association, Otterbein College Athletics, and the Columbus Ballet Met.

Dr. Tesner played varsity football and lacrosse at Penn State University and is a graduate of Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.
