Ohio Inks Deal With Guardian Television Network

Aug. 23, 2007

ATHENS, Ohio-Ohio Athletics is proud to announce a partnership with the Guardian Television Network for the broadcast of 15 sports contests for the 2007-08 season. The Ohio Bobcat Sports Network will be producing the broadcasts in conjunction with GTN.

"We are excited to announce our partnership with Guardian Television Network-WSFJ TV in Columbus," said Ohio Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt. "Richard Schilg, President of GTN and his entire team have shown tremendous enthusiasm and commitment with the launching of this joint venture. This exciting new relationship will provide Ohio Athletics with a tremendous presence in the Columbus and Central Ohio market.

Fans and alumni will be able to learn more about what's going on at Ohio University and be updated with information on all 16 varsity sports throughout the telecast. With the help of University Communications and Marketing and the Office of Alumni Relations, the halftime of the broadcast will feature stories of Ohio University's award-winning students and faculty.

Schilg joined Hocutt at the Columbus Bobcat Caravan on Tuesday evening, August 21, to make the announcement of this partnership in person.

"We here at GTN, Channel 51 and the Guardian Television Network are excited to partner with Ohio University to bring the Bobcats' football and basketball programs this fall to Columbus and Central Ohio," said Schilg. "Ohio's athletic programs are managed and directed by some of finest men and women in the nation."

GTN is an over-the-air station available throughout Central Ohio on channel 51.  In addition, it can be found on cable and satellite systems throughout Central Ohio (see below for channel listings).

For the 2007 football season, five contests will be broadcast by the OBSN on GTN.  Dave Weekley, known throughout the region for his coverage of the Mid-American Conference, will have the call in the booth.  Color analysis will be provided by Matt Sheppard, an Ohio Football and OBSN alumnus. Jason Koma, a veteran of the Ohio Bobcat Sports Network, will join Weekley and Sheppard on the sideline.
