The "moment" includes the whole 1968 football season, as we went to every game, including traveling to all away games. One special away postgame stands out; we had just defeated either Kent or BG in the final seconds, and we all followed the 110 as they played and marched to downtown.

My brother-in-law and I went up for our first ever MAC Basketball Tournament in 2005. We saw the first two games Thursday, and when we went to check into our hotel room, they told us we didn't have a reservation. So, we drove back to Newark and back up again on Friday to see OU beat Miami. We wanted to return for the championship against Buffalo on Saturday, but were too tired. I did watch the whole game Saturday on TV, and when they won, I yelled and screamed and jumped around. I called my brother-in-law and he was doing the same thing. From now on, we are dedicated fans to the tourney and we make sure we get better hotels for a room.

It was either 1967 or 1968 and I was the original announcer for the "brand new" Marching Men Of Ohio when we went to Miami for "migration." (For those who don't know, Ohio, Miami, Bowling Green and Kent participated in "migration" when "everyone" from one of those schools came to Athens for a football weekend, and we went to one of the other schools for an away game weekend.) After pre-game, some of the Miami fans threw eggs and empty bottles at the band. But, during the halftime show as the OUMB played a number of current rock and roll hits, the crowd got more and more excited. At the end of the show, the band played Aquarius/Let The Sunshine from the Broadway musical Hair -- and the Miami student section went absolutely insane. They were on their feet, dancing in the stands and gave the band a huge standing ovation (remember this was AT Miami). The Miami pressbox personnel were totally stunned. I did feel a little bad that those same Miami fans booed their own band when they played "Mr. Touchdown, USA" following our show. But not too bad. After all, it was Miami.

One thing that is truly special about Ohio University is the friendliness of everyone. My 7-year-old son (Collin) and I attended the Thursday night (11/16/2006) Bobcats vs. Zips football game. Following the game, we walked down to the field to celebrate with the team, students, and families. The Bobcat players went above and beyond the call of duty in allowing my son to share in the celebration. Matt Muncy's father saw my son wearing a #50 jersey and gave him the player photo button off of his shirt. It was a special evening that will remain in our memories for a long - long time. Go Bobcats!

Cruising recently in the Mexican Rivera found us in Cobo San Lucas on Sept. 29th - Stand Up & Cheer Friday. So we put on our OU shirts & discovered there were parents of a current Ohio University student from Akron on our ship!!! There are Bobcats/Bobcat parents are everywhere!!!

One memory that sticks out in my mind was the 1993 home basketball game against Bowling Green. The Convo was packed because it was Sibs or Dad's weekend or one of those. The first half of the game was competitive and the crowd was really into the game, cheering and chanting. However, Bowling Green's big men all got into foul trouble trying to defend Gary Trent. The second half was one of the most dominating performances I have ever seen on a basketball court. I think Trent exploded for 50+ points that day, with thunderous dunks galore. BG was helpless to stop him. The Convo was full of fans and it was rockin'! Every time he jammed down another dunk, the place went absolutely nuts. My ears were ringing it was so loud. I lost my voice for two days. "Stand Up and Cheer" never sounded so good when BG called timeouts!

My favorite "Stand Up and Cheer Moment" was visiting Athens for the first time in 12 years with my daughter. It was her first visit to Ohio University. She has heard plenty about OU since her father and grandfather are graduates.

It may not be the most memorable, but this year I work with almost all Ohio State alums and they decided it was RED and White Day at work. Not me! I will always support my bobcats and wear my GREEN and WHITE. I took a lot of heat but once a Bobcat always a Bobcat!!!
-- Jennifer McGrew Kiper, Bellville, OH, Class of '95

My most memorable moment was when all of my roommates and I painted "Got Frank" on our shirts, and sat in the front row when Ohio defeated Pittsburgh in overtime in 2005.

It was 1982, fresh off 4 straight wins; the Miami Redskins were now coming into Athens. The game was for sole possession of first place and would put the 'Cats record at a very respectful 5-2 and, undefeated in the MAC. Miami's Brian Pillman headed one of the best defenses in the MAC and he was a consensus A.P. All-American. I was playing on the offensive line at the time and we knew we had our hands full. Coach Burke put in a game plan to double team Pillman on each & every play. By the time the 2nd quarter was done, so was Pillman. Tim Linson had an excellent game and seemed to be in Pillman's legs the entire day. Miami was never in the game and the Bobcats shut out our longtime foe 20-0 in front of what was at the time, one of the largest crowds in pre-renovated Peden stadium history (I think about 20,000 people).

When we were in double sessions each summer, Coach Burke made every new player learn each & every word of the Ohio University fight song. Some of us wondered why but we did it anyway. Following this game, President Charles Ping came into the locker room and, in his now raspy voice from cheering, congratulated us. Then he started to sing STAND UP AND CHEER! Every single person in the locker room joined in and started to sing as loud as we could. President Ping knew each word of that song and so did the whole team, thanks to Coach Burke. I don't think I've ever felt more proud to be singing the OHIO fight song in that misty room filled with those fine young men that had just accomplished what so few had thought could be done. To this day, it brings back chills to think of all those special people and that very, very special version of 'STAND UP & CHEER'.

I was a Bobcat Cheerleader my four years at OU and my parents were the #1 fans! This is a picture of us supporting the team after the OHIO vs. Ohio State football game in 1999.

As we walked out of the arena following the Bobcat come from behind victory over New Mexico State in Madison Square Garden in the 1994 Pre-Season NIT, members of the Marching 110 spontaneously began to play on the corner of 34th and 7th in NYC. Fans leaving the arena, tourists on the street, and late night local revelers all joined in this impromptu pep rally. Standing in the lobby area watching the "festivities" with my wife, kids and 1982 OU graduate John Urban was my best Bobcat Moment. >-- Alan Swank, Athens, OH

Our two favorite Bobcat moments as a family are the 2005 MAC Tournament Basketball Game (Ohio 80, Buffalo 79, OT) and the Pittsburgh football game later that fall (Ohio 16, Pittsburgh 10, OT). Pictured in the photo (at right) are the Stone's 3 children with their Grandpa in TailGreat Park.

It was the NCAA basketball tournament in 1964- After beating Louisville in the first round, Ohio meets 4th ranked Kentucky... and routs the Wildcats 85-69.

Three year old Jack Towne (left) does his "spur of the moment" Bobcat cheer as he shows off his first Ohio Bobcats football jersey. His parents, Kimberly (Fisher) Towne, BSE '95 & MED '97 and Christopher Towne, BFA '96 say their favorite Stand Up and Cheer memories involve attending the Bobcat Football games while they were in school. Today they live in Suwanee, GA and return to visit Athens every other year.
