ATHENS, Ohio- Last week, members from the Ohio Athletics Department met with faculty members at Baker Center for the first annual Chat with the `Cats event. This event was hosted by the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee and featured casual discussions and light refreshments.

The event provided faculty members an opportunity to interact with athletic department members for an hour and a half. The topics revolved around several topics, including academics, budget, compliance and facilities.

"This event was such a great opportunity to foster communication between the faculty and athletic department at Ohio University," said Intercollegiate Athletics Committee (IAC) Chair Betty Sindelar. "Both faculty and athletic department members expressed to me how much they appreciated this opportunity and what insights they had gained through the conversations that occurred. Opening communication among departments here at Ohio University can only help improve the student-athlete's experience on this campus. The IAC would like to thank everyone that attended."

"Having Ohio University students at this event was huge and I can't thank them enough for taking time out of their busy schedules," Sindelar said. "At the end of the day, all of us here at Ohio University want to ensure that we are providing our students with the best possible learning environment. Hearing directly from the student-athlete provides invaluable feedback to all of us on the challenges they face everyday. It is the intent of the IAC to follow this event up with another one that will provide other constituents of the Ohio University community an opportunity to also interact with members of the athletic department and the student-athletic population."

Several members of the athletics department were also in attendance at this event including Athletics Director, Jim Schaus, administrators and head coaches.

"This was a great opportunity for me to interact with the faculty members of the University," said Ohio baseball head coach Rob Smith. "Previously, the opportunity to meet my student-athletes' professors was not there and this is a great event to put faces with names while working to build relationships across campus."

Given the success of this year's event, the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee invites faculty to attend next year's Chat with the `Cats event to continue to help Ohio University advance in all areas.
