ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio athletic department announced that Annika Ludewig, a certified athletic trainer, has joined the Ohio Sports Medicine staff on a full-time basis following more than a year as a graduate assistant.

Ludewig, originally from Stockholm, Sweeden, came to Ohio University in August, 2005 and enrolled in the institution's athletic training graduate program. She served as a graduate assistant in Ohio's Sports Medicine department since coming to Ohio until she was recently hired full-time.

"Annika has done an impressive job while at Ohio," Director of Athletic Training John Bowman said. "She has demonstrated great commitment to Ohio University, and we are delighted to add her on a full-time basis."

Ludewig assisted the athletic training staff with football, men's basketball, lacrosse, soccer and swimming and diving in addition to her many general duties as a graduate assistant. Her full-time duties now have her working primarily with men's basketball and soccer.

Ludewig graduated cum laude from California Lutheran University in 2004 with a bachelor's of science in exercise science and sports medicine. She spent four years as a student athletic trainer at CLU and assisted with the football, women's basketball, women's soccer and track and field programs.

Following graduation from California Lutheran, Ludewig spent the 2004-05 athletic season as an athletic training intern at New Mexico State University where she worked with the football and baseball programs.

In 2004, Ludewig was certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification. She has been a member of NATA since 2002, is licensed by the State of Ohio and also holds membership in the Ohio Athletic Trainers Association.

Ludewig is on track to complete her master's of science in athletic training at Ohio next spring.
