What qualifies as a trademark, logo or symbol?
Any mark, name, logo, symbol, nickname, abbreviation, word, mascot, slogan, insignia uniform or landmark that is associated with Ohio University and is distinguished from any other university, team or organization.

Who must be licensed?
Any individual or company that wishes to use any or all of Ohio University trademarks/logos on products sold in the marketplace whether wholesale, retail or online.

What products can be licensed?
Ohio University will consider most products for licensing as long as they represent the University in a positive manner. However, Ohio University will not license the following products: alcohol, tobacco, condoms, gambling products, knives, guns, cigarettes, cigarette lighters, phone debit cards, shot glasses and noise makers. Ohio University does its best to ensure all products are of high quality.

How can you obtain a licensing application?
You can obtain an application for a License Agreement directly from The Licensing Resource Group. This application can be downloaded from their website at: www.lrgusa.com.

Do I have to submit art for approval?
All art designs must be submitted and approved by the Collegiate Licensing office at Ohio University prior to products being produced. Art designs can be submitted to LRG for licensing

How much does it cost to become licensed?
The cost for a Standard License Agreement is:

  1. $100 required advance royalty fee for apparel products or
  2. $50 required advance royalty fee for non-apparel products
  3. $80 administration fee
  4. 10% royalty fee for Ohio University products

How does Ohio University ensure products are manufactured in an approved facility?
Our licensing agent, The Licensing Resource Group (LRG) holds a seat on the Fair Labor Association's University Advisory Council and Executive Committee, as well as regularly attending meetings, seminars and industry events covering anti-sweatshop considerations. LRG has also visited several of its client's campuses to participate in educational meetings with students and staff regarding this issue, and has addressed numerous on and off-campus interest groups. LRG requires all active licensees to disclose detailed information regarding manufacturing locations used to produce licensed merchandise. Manufacturers applying for a license are required to disclose this information during the application process.
