Ways to Make a GiftOnline Giving: Gifts can be made online using your credit card. Visit the secure online giving page at: www.ohio.edu/give. Cash Gifts: Gifts of cash are available for immediate use by the Athletics Department. Credit Card: The Ohio University Foundation accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Stock Transfer/E-Trade: Gifts of appreciated securities are a great way to transmit assets to Ohio University as charitable contributions. Regardless of the method of transferring stock, as per IRS regulations, the value of the stock gift is calculated on the date the transfer is received by Ohio University or its broker. Similarly, the value is calculated as the average of the high and low price on the date the transfer was received by the university or its broker, not the date it was sent. Donors need to specify and confirm in writing the designation(s) for the gift, ideally before the stock transfer is made. Gifts-in-kind: A gift-in-kind is a gift of personal property that is charitably gifted to The Ohio University Foundation. Gifts-in-kind such as books, equipment, real estate and artwork can qualify donors for charitable gift credit. Gifts-in-kind must be properly appraised through the donor's efforts. Matching Gifts: Personal or individual gifts to educational institutions made by employees, retirees and their family members may be matched by businesses and corporations. Contact your employer's human resource office for more information. Planned Gifts: These are charitable contributions made by using some form of estate planning device. Legal advisors on staff can assist with planned giving. Memorial and Honorary Gifts: Gifts of any type may be made in honor of, or in memory of, a specific individual. This type of gift is a thoughtful and meaningful way to recognize the accomplishments or memory of a colleague, professor, friend or relative. The Foundation notifies the honoree or relative regarding all gifts made in this way. |
