Ohio Bobcats: Your Home Area Team

Ohio University has been a pillar of excellence in southeast Ohio since 1804. Although renowned throughout the nation and world, its roots remain in southeast Ohio. Athletics plays a valuable role for the institution and area community through the significant media exposure of Bobcat sporting activities.

But supporting a university and its athletic program is not uniquely reserved for alumni, current students, faculty or staff. Following the local collegiate athletic program can be an entertainment source and unifying element for those who live in the community or throughout the state.

The Ohio Bobcats want to be your home area team. It does not matter where you attended school or where you are from. If you live in southeast Ohio, consider supporting the Bobcats because it is fun and benefits the area in many ways. You might enjoy supporting Ohio State, your alma mater from the west coast or a school near your hometown in Kentucky. That is great. It is fun to support more than one team. However, we want you to know that we would love for you to also enjoy following and supporting the Bobcats since this is where you live!

Ohio Athletics brings millions of dollars of exposure for the state and area from media exposure annually. This exposure assists with the economic impact of the region from attending events and the overall entertainment value of having a Division I-A athletic program with 16 different men’s and women’s sports.

So whether you are from Athens, Nelsonville, Logan, Lancaster or Parkersburg— we want to be your home area team. If you reside in Chillicothe, Zanesville, Jackson or Marietta—we want to reach out and extend a welcome to follow the Bobcats! If you live in a very small town that I have not mentioned or big city, come on board!

We are planning to reach out more to Southeast Ohio and throughout the state in the future. Our new Bobcat Representative Program will have volunteers to assist our staff in building better relationships with those in all corners of Ohio. We will also be increasing the number of special group event days for communities to attend home athletic contests as well as many new Bobcat Caravan events where coaches, staff and athletes will visit Ohio communities.

How can you get involved? You can start with following the Bobcats sports programs through our website (OhioBobcats.com) or through the local media. Next, plan to attend some of our athletic events. You have to get in the action and can do so easily with a short drive. There is nothing more exciting than a college football Saturday at Peden Stadium, seeing a raucous basketball crowd at the Convo or enjoying the energy of a volleyball contest—just to name a few! You can also attend a variety of fun social events throughout the year.
