CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- The Ohio baseball team (4-4) took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning, then tacked on three insurance runs in the eighth to beat Maine (2-6), 6-2, in the Sunday (Feb. 25) series finale at Perfect Game's LakePoint facility.

The Bobcats split the four-game weekend set with the Black Bears. Maine won the Friday (Feb. 23) series opener, 5-1. Ohio split the Saturday (Feb. 24) doubleheader with the Black Bears, taking game one by a score of 7-5 but falling the second game of the twin bill, 2-1.

Maine landed the game's first punch by pushing a run across in the home half of the first inning. Junior Jeremy Pena led off with a double to right, advanced to third on a passed ball and then scored one out later on an RBI ground out by senior Christopher Bec.

Ohio evened the score in the second as freshman second baseman Aaron Levy (Cincinnati, Ohio) coaxed a two-out walk and later scored on a base hit by junior center fielder Devon Garcia (Bowling Green, Ohio). The Black Bears regained the lead, though, in the home half of the frame. Redshirt junior Caleb Kerbs hit a leadoff single to left, moved to third on a base hit to left by sophomore Kevin Doody one out later and then tagged up and scored when Pena lifted a sacrifice fly to center.

The Bobcats wrestled control of the contest away from Maine by plating two runs in the fourth to grab a 3-2 edge. Levy got things started with a leadoff single to left. After redshirt freshman catcher Dan McCauley (Pittsburgh, Pa.) drew a walk, Levy scored on a single to right by senior left fielder Evan Bourn (Overland Park, Kan.) to tie the game. After Garcia was hit by a pitch and redshirt senior designated hitter Nick Bredson (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) drew a walk, Bourn scored on a fielder's choice that put junior first baseman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) on base, giving the Bobcats the lead.

Ohio added to its total with a three-run eighth. A two-out error by Maine put Bourn on base. After Garcia drew an intentional walk, Bredeson made the Black Bears pay with a single to center that brought home Bourn. After Garcia scored on another miscue by Maine, Bredeson scampered home on a passed ball for Ohio's sixth and final run.

Rott accounted for two of Ohio's eight hits to lead the Bobcats at the plate.

Maine was led by Pena, Kerbs and senior Jonathan Bennett, who each posted a pair of hits.

Redshirt senior right-handed reliever Cory Blessing (Mayfield, Ohio) earned the pitching win for Ohio. He tossed 3.1 scoreless innings, striking out four while giving up only one hit and one walk. Blessing was one of seven pitchers utilized by the Bobcats. Freshman left-handed reliever Sebastian Fabik (Lebanon, Ohio) struck out one while permitting two hits in a scoreless inning of work. Redshirt junior righty Nick Kamrada (Grand Ledge, Mich.) threw one scoreless frame, fanning one while giving up one hit.  Redshirt senior righty Jake Roehn (Sandwich, Ill.) threw a scorless ninth inning, striking out one and allowing one hit.

Ohio will be back at Perfect Game's LakePoint facility next weekend (March 2-4) for a four-game series against Nebraska Omaha.
