ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio baseball team (3-13) suffered an 11-2 loss to Army West Point (9-7) today at Bob Wren Stadium.

The Black Knights plated 11 runs on 11 hits and eight walks in a contest in which they never trailed. Four Army batters posted multi-hit days. Junior designated hitter John McKenna finished 2-for-3 with two doubles, drew two walks and scored four runs. Sophomore left fielder Andre Waldon went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. He belted a three-run home run over the right field wall to extend Army's lead to 5-0 in the top of the third inning. Junior third baseman Jeremiah Adams finished 2-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore second baseman Tim Simoes went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a walk and two runs scored.

Army right-handed starting pitcher Sam Messina worked six innings, fanning eight while permitting two earned runs on four hits and two walks. He picked up the pitching win to improve to 3-2 on the season. Freshman right-handed pitcher Anthony LoRicco pitched three spotless innings of relief, tallying two strikeouts.

Sophomore center fielder Sebastian Fabik (Lebanon, Ohio) accounted for two of Ohio's four hits. Junior designated hitter/right fielder Jack Longo (Mayfield, Ohio) doubled to lead off the bottom of the first inning to record the only extra-base hit of the afternoon for the Bobcats. He also drew a walk and scored a run.

The Bobcats plated their two runs in the home half of the fourth, cutting Army's lead to 6-2. Longo led the frame off with a walk, advanced to second one out later on a single to left by senior first baseman Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) and then to third on an infield single to third by Fabik. With the bases loaded for Ohio, sophomore third baseman Aaron Levy (Cincinnati, Ohio) coaxed a walk to push Longo across the plate for the Bobcats' first run of the game. Rott then scored by way of an RBI fielder's choice that put redshirt junior right fielder Ryan Sargent (Algonquin, Ill.) on base.

That's as close as Ohio got, though, as Army held the Bobcats scoreless over the final five innings and added one run in both the seventh and eighth and three more in the top of the ninth.

Freshman southpaw starting pitcher Joe Rock (Aliquippa, Pa.) took the loss on the mound for Ohio, falling to 1-3 on the year. He struck out four in five innings of work.

Ohio will look to bounce back when it hosts Army in the final contest of the three-game weekend series on Sunday (March 17) at Bob Wren Stadium. First pitch is now scheduled for noon ET. The contest was originally scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m. ET. The game will mark the first Sunday Funday of the 2019 season, with all fans receiving free admission courtesy of OhioHealth. Redshirt freshman right-handed pitcher Jack Liberatore (Greensburg, Pa.) is scheduled to start on the mound for the Bobcats and oppose senior right-hander Adam Burggraff of the Black Knights.
