ATHENS, Ohio – The bats continued to produce runs as Ohio Baseball (8-18, 3-3 MAC) took down Morehead State (18-11, 5-4 OVC), 12-3, on Tuesday evening at Bob Wren Stadium.
The Bobcats were led by four Bobcats who had two RBI each. Redshirt freshman OF Trevor Lukkes (Tustin, Calif.), Trevor Hafner (Perrysburg, Ohio), sophomore INF Treyben Funderburg (Beavercreek, Ohio) and redshirt freshman INF Cole Revels (Charlotte, N.C.) all had two RBI in the win.
Ohio has scored 12 runs in three straight games.
Lukkes was 2-for-5 with a double and one run scored. Lukkes now has a team-best .315 batting average this season and is second on the team in doubles with five. Lukkes is currently on a nine-game hitting streak.
Hafner also had a double and scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Funderburg brought home his two RBI on sacrifice flies and was 1-for-2. Revels ended the day 1-for-3 with a single.
Freshman LHP Joe Rock (Aliquippa, Pa.) improved to 2-3 after a quality start. Rock allowed no earned runs and just one run overall to score. Rock struck out two batters and allowed six runners to reach base.
Ohio jumped on the board in the second inning with four runs. Ohio's first run came when junior Hafner was brought home on a double play. The Bobcats loaded the bases once again, where Lukkes ripped a double to right center field. Redshirt junior C Nathan Mallott (Omaha, Neb.) and redshirt sophomore Michael Richardson (Cambridge, Md.) scored without an error, and junior OF Jack Longo (Strongsville, Ohio) scored on an error on the right fielder.
The Bobcats added to their lead in the third on three hits. Funderburg (Beavercreek, Ohio) drove home senior INF Rudy Rott (Holmen, Wis.) on a sacrifice fly to right field to go up 5-0. Revels added to the Ohio lead when he drove a single to center field to score Mallott.
Rott went on to finish 2-for-5 with a double, one RBI and three runs scored.
Morehead State scored in the top of the fifth on an infield single from Connor Pauly that scored Ryan Layne.
Ohio extended its lead to 10-1 on one hit in the bottom of the seventh. Lukkes started the inning with a single down the left field line. Rott reached on an error and Levy walked to load the bases. Lukkes scored on a fielding error by the shortstop, and Richardson walked in an RBI. After a Morehead State pitching change, both Funderburg and Revels had sac flies to brining in runs to make it 10-1.
Richardson reached base twice with a walk and a single and scored one run with one RBI.
The Eagles added two runs on a home run in the top of the eighth from Chase Sortor.
Ohio answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth. Rott ripped a double down the line to score Levy and Hafner singled to center field to score Rott.
Redshirt senior RHP Nick Kamrada (Grand Ledge, Mich.) tossed a scoreless sixth and struck out one batter looking.
Redshirt junior Tony Iero (North Canton, Ohio) pitched 0.2 innings and gave up one earned run. Freshman RHP Eamon Horwedel (Ann Arbor, Mich.) gave up a home run with one earned run charged to Iero and one to Horwedel.
Sophomore LHP Brett Manis (Port Huron, Mich.) tossed a perfect ninth inning while striking out one batter.
The Bobcats will be back in action this weekend at Northern Illinois. Ohio will take on NIU on Friday at 4 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
