Courtney Werner

Player Profile

Position:
Volunteer Assistant Coach

The 2011-12 season will be Courtney Werner's second year as assistant coach for the Bobcats. Werner returned to last year after a four-year stint as the head assistant coach with the University at Buffalo Men's and Women's swimming & diving teams.

During her stay at Buffalo, the Bulls steadily improved upon their conference championship finish culminating in a second-place finish at the 2010 Men's MAC Championships. As the primary coach for the distance group, Courtney used her experiences as a collegiate swimmer, both in and out of the water, to motivate the team to succeed beyond their own expectations. Two Buffalo swimmers broke school records in the 1650 Freestyle, two of the oldest records remaining in the program's history, and another swimmer reset the 500 Free standard.

After finishing her collegiate eligibility at Ohio in 2004, Courtney began her coaching career as a graduate assistant coach from 2004-06 while earning her master's degree in Coaching Education. Her primary coaching responsibilities during this time involved working with the distance group, where she mentored the conference champion in the 1650 freestyle.

While a swimmer at Ohio, Courtney focused mainly on the distance Freestyle events, specifically the 500 Free and the 1650 Free. She began her collegiate career as a walkon and graduated as a scholarhip student-athlete and a conference finalist in both the 500 and 1650 freestyles. It was a journey that she is very proud of and wouldn't change for any other.
