GRANVILLE, Ohio - In its first NCAA competition in a month's time, Ohio Swimming and Diving put together a dominating 193-97 victory over the Denison Big Red. The win improves Ohio's dual-meet record to 1-2 on the season.
The Bobcats wasted no time at all in taking control of the meet, earning the top two spots in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Addison Ferguson (Westfield Center, Ohio), Anastasia Bocharnikova (Nizhny Tagil, Russia), Haley Clark (College Station, Texas), and Lauren Funk (Springfield, Ohio) earned first and 11 points in at time of 1:47.06. Not far behind this foursome was the relay team of Rachel Stearns (Minnetonka, Minn.), Tori Bagan (Roanoke, Ind.), Deidre Geroni (Emmaus, Pa.), and Katey Brooks (North Royalton, Ohio), who took second place in a time of 1:47.76.
Laurin Williams (Shoreline, Wash.) followed up these performances with her sixth first-place result of the season, as she took the top spot in the 1650 Freestyle with a time of 17:13.78. She finished well ahead of the competition, touching the wall more than 25 seconds faster than the second-place finisher, Taylor Johnson of Denison.
With the Bobcats holding a commanding 93-38 advantage, Haleigh Bartlett (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) set a personal-best score of 294.60 from the one-meter diving board en route to earning first place. Srail scored a 291.53; Hillstrom recorded a 284.78, and Capcik scored 269.48.
The 500 Freestyle proved to be one of many dominant events for Ohio on Saturday, as two Bobcats claimed the top two spots in the event and the 13 points which accompany these positions. Bianca Hauzer, a new addition to the team, placed first in a time of 5:11.22 while teammate Michelle Gasior (Louisville, Ky.) was just 3.32 seconds behind, touching the wall in 5:14.54.
After three Bobcats earned the top three spots in the 100 Butterfly, Bartlett and her fellow divers put the meet away once and for all from the three-meter board. Bartlett scored a career-best 327.83 to earn first place; Srail earned second with a 286.95, and Capcik finished third with a 277.35.
