ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out the regular season with wins at Ball State on Saturday afternoon. The men's squad won 8-of-13 events in its 145-98 victory and the women's squad took 12-of-16 in its 179-121 win.

The men finished the season 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference. The women finish 10-3 overall and 6-2 in the MAC.

"The teams competed very well today and in a very tough environment," said Head Coach Greg Werner. "They had convincing wins over very good teams. It's a tribute to them especially with the all the adversity they've had to overcome this week. I'm really proud of them. I think they've set themselves up really nice for the Mid-American Conference championships."

On the men's side Stephen D'Arrigo (Tucson, Ariz.), Jason Reutter (Crown Point, Ind.), Bobby Pampush (Rocky River, Ohio) and Jim Bayne (San Antonio, Texas) won the 400-yard medley relay in a time of 3:33.92. Reutter also won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:13.02.

Luke Herlehy (Batavia, Ill.) won two events for the Bobcats taking the top spot in the 1000-yard freestyle event in 9:49.09 and the 500-yard freestyle event in 4:41.62. Matthew Greco (Strongsville, Ohio) came in second place in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:49.47.

Cy Moser (Parkersburg, W. Va) won the 100-yard freestyle in 48.28 and freshman Benjamin Schick (Muskego, Wis.) won his first event of the season with a 1:57.71 finish in the 200-yard butterfly event.
 

 

Other top finishes for the `Cats included Cameron Hansbarger (Fort Wayne, Ind.) winning the 3-meter diving event with a score of 304.05.

On the women's side Lindsay Hamilton (Saskatchewan, Canada) won the one-meter diving event with a score of 258.82 and the three-meter diving event with a score of 261.00.

Courtney Gallo (Lake Worth, Fla.) won the 1000-yard freestyle event in 10:31.62 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:12.70. Ilse Petersen (Johannesburg, South Africa) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.26.

Emily Wylam won three events for the Bobcats, including wins in the 100-yard backstroke in 58.64, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:06.33 and the 200-yard IM in 2:12.14.

Leah Giancarli (Akron, Ohio) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:06.70. Mallory Rico (Mentor, Ohio) won the 50-yard freestyle in 24.88. Ashley Marion (London, Ontario) won the 100-yard freestyle in 53.26.

MAC Championships begin next month with the women starting on Feb. 14 in Ypsilanti, Mich. and the men on Feb. 22 in Buffalo, N.Y.
