ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio University Swimming and Diving Team kept up its strong start to the 2013 calendar year, picking up its fourth straight victory on Friday night. Ohio (4-2, 0-1 Mid-American Conference) defeated the visiting Xavier Musketeers by a final score of 137.5-113.5 at the Ohio University Aquatic Center.

In addition to being the Bobcats' fourth straight victory, Friday marked the seventh consecutive year during which Ohio defeated Xavier (2-4, 0-0 Atlantic 10) in dual-meet competition.

Ohio claimed the top time or score in 15 of the day's 16 events. The only competition which saw Xavier finish ahead of Ohio was the 50 butterfly, an event which Courtney Shields won in 26.20 seconds.

The Bobcats began the meet in an impressive fashion, winning the 200 medley relay by nearly three full seconds. The team of Addison Ferguson (Westfield Center, Ohio), Tori Bagan (Roanoke, Ind.), Katey Brooks (North Royalton, Ohio), and Deidre Geroni (Emmaus, Pa.) scored 11 points in the event, touching in a brisk 1:48.53. Ferguson swam a very strong meet for the Green and White, also taking the top spot in the 50 backstroke and helping the 200 freestyle relay squad touch the wall first.

In a meet characterized by mainly short and medium-distance events, Laurin Williams (Shoreline, Wash.) won the longest event of the day, the 800 freestyle. The junior placed first in 8:14.13, defeating her nearest competitor by more than 30 seconds.

Anastasia Bocharnikova (Nizhny Tagil, Russia) was one of many Ohio student-athletes to have a very strong showing at the dual meet. The junior placed first in both the 50 breaststroke (30.70 seconds) and the 100 backstroke (58.37 seconds).

Morgan Srail (Avon Lake, Ohio) hit a personal-best mark from the one-meter diving board on Friday, scoring an impressive 299.02. This broke the sophomore's prior mark of 291.98 and currently ranks as the third highest score ever achieved by a Bobcat from the one-meter board.

Ohio will next be in action on Saturday against Toledo. The Bobcats and Rockets will begin the first event of the afternoon at 1 p.m. from the Ohio University Aquatic Center.
