@Ohio_Swim_Dive Finishes Day One of Marshall Invite

Ohio swimming and diving wraps up the first day of the Marshall University Invite completing the first eight events. This meet serves as a preparation for the up and coming Mid-American Conference Championships and will not be officially scored.

The meet started with the 200-yard medley relay where Ohio’s A and B teams finished first and second with times of 2:45.42 and 1:49.16, respectively. Team A consisted of senior Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, England), freshman Emilia Lahtinen (Ylogarvi, Finland), sophomore Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.) while the B team consisted of junior Caroline Raley (Mobile, Ala.), freshman Mikayla Herich (Hebron, Ky.), senior Carrie Dukes (Monkton, Md.) and sophomore Mackenzie Hornstra (Naperville, Ill.).

Marshall would steal the first two spots, next, in the 1650-yard freestyle, but freshmen Mackenzie Caruthers (Hilliard, Ohio) and Kelsey Hahn (Oviedo, Fla.) placed third and fourth with times of 17:45.36 and 17:48.79, for the ‘Cats.

In the 200-yard freestyle, Dawson was the first Bobcat to finish coming in seventh with a time of 1:54.38.

Next, was the 100-yard backstroke where senior Myriah Ariza-Balter (Evergreen, Colo.) placed sixth with a time of 58.60.

Lahtinen would then take first in the 100-yard breaststroke clocking in at 1:04.65. Freshman Jenna Vance (Brunswick, Ohio) placed third (1:05.82), sophomore Emily Ortner (Concord, Calif.) placed fourth (1:05.93) and freshman Claire Mikesell (Clearfield, Pa.) placed fifth (1:06.00) also in the 100-yard backstroke.

In the final event, the 200-yard IM, freshman Annie Gosselin (Naperville, Ill.) came in first for Ohio placing fourth with a 2:08.84. 

The ‘Cats will compete in the second and final day of the Marshall Invite, tomorrow, Feb. 4, 2017.
