OXFORD, Ohio –
The Ohio women’s swimming and diving team finished the first day of the 2016-2017 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships tied for fourth place with the RedHawks of Miami, each with a total of 56 points, after the first two events.

The Bobcats kicked off the week competing in the 200-yard medley relay with the team of senior Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, Eng.), freshman Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland), sophomore Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.) and freshman Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.). The ‘Cats finished in sixth place with a time of 1:40.69.

In the second and final event of the day, the 800-yard freestyle relay team of Zimcosky, Van Lanen, Dawson and Mikayla Herich (Hebron, Ky.) finished fourth with a time of 7:19.36.

Akron leads with 74 points, followed by University at Buffalo with 72 points. Next is Eastern Michigan with 66 points, Ohio and Miami with 56 points each, Toledo with 50 points, Ball State with 46 points, and Bowling Green with 30.

The Bobcats return to action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. with the preliminary rounds of the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard IM and the 50-yard freestyle. The day will pick back up at 1 p.m. with the preliminary and final rounds of the one-meter dive.
