OXFORD, Ohio – Ohio women’s swimming and diving wraps up day three of the 2017 Mid-American Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in fifth place with a total of 205 points.

Today’s events included the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 400-yard medley relay and the preliminary round of the three-meter dive.

The day started with the preliminary rounds of the 400-yard IM where freshman Mikayla Herich (Hebron, Ky.) swam a time of 4:21.91 to become the fourth seed for the finals. Herich finished third overall in the finals with a time of 4:19.64, the new third-best time in program history.

In the 100 fly, both sophomore Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.) and senior Carrie Dukes (Monkton, Md.) made it into the finals with times of 53.67 as the second seed and 55.67 as the 11th seed. In the finals, Van Lanen finished second overall with a time of 53.13, the new second-best in program history replacing alumna Addison Ferguson’s time of 53.48 posted in 2014. Dukes tied for 14th overall with a time of 55.86.

Freshman Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.) entered the final round of the 200-yard freestyle as the third seed with a preliminary time of 1:47.66. In the final round, Zimcosky logged a time of 1:48.40 to place fifth overall, the new sixth-best all-time.

In the 100-yard breaststroke, three Bobcats made it to the finals including freshman Claire Mikesell (Clearfield, Pa.) as the 12th seed with a time of 1:03.54, freshman Emilia Lahtinen (Ylojarvi, Finland) as the 14th seed with a 1:03.64 time and redshirt junior Hannah Shinn (Waterloo, Ill.) as the 16th seed with a time of 1:03.88. Overall, Lahtinen finished the race 11th with a 1:03.30 time, Shinn finished in 15th in 1:03.88 and Mikesell finished 16th in 1:03.97.

In the 400-yard medley relay, Ohio’s team of Herich, Lahtinen, Dukes and Josephine Barker (Richmond, N. Yorkshire, England) with a time of 3:46.91 to place eighth overall. 

In the three-meter dive, sophomore Olivia Dillon (Newcastle, Aus.) and freshman Ireland Littlejohn (Grand Rapids, Mich.) both recorded top-25 finishes.

The fourth and final day of the MAC Championship begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the 1650 freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard freestyle relay and the final round of the three-meter dive.
