AUBURN, Ala. – Laurin Williams represented Ohio University Swimming and Diving at the NCAA Championships on Thursday morning, competing in the 500 Freestyle. It was the first of two events in which she will compete at the 2012 Championships.

Williams, following a stellar season during which she captured three silver medals at the 2012 Mid-American Conference Championships and was named to the All-Conference First Team, placed 52nd in the preliminary round of the 500 Freestyle on Thursday. The sophomore swam a 4:50.65, a mark which currently ranks as the fifth-best time in program history. Williams (Shoreline, Wash.) did not compete in the final round of the event on Thursday evening because she did not finish within the fastest 16 swimmers.

On Saturday, Williams will line up against some of the nation’s best once again, this time participating in the 1650 Freestyle. The preliminary heats for this event are scheduled for Saturday at approximately 5 p.m. Williams was a very strong 1650 swimmer during the season, setting the program record during the 2011-12 campaign with her brisk time of 16:14.02. This pace was seven full seconds ahead of the prior program record.
