INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Laurin Williams of the Ohio University Swimming and Diving Team completed her first day of competition at the 2013 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday. The junior placed 51st in the preliminary round of the 500 freestyle, swimming a time of 4:48.58.
The time was the second fastest Williams (Shoreline, Wash.) swam during the 2012-13 season, narrowly behind her 4:47.31 from the Mid-American Conference Championships which saw her earn second place. The time ranks as the fourth-fastest mark in the 500 freestyle in Ohio program history.
Williams did not qualify for the final round of the 500 freestyle. Only the top 16 times from the preliminary round will continue at this evening's 7 p.m. session. Williams was not far out of this group, finishing just 7.03 seconds outside of the top 16.
Saturday will be Williams' second day of competition at the 2013 NCAA Championships. The junior will compete in the 1650 freestyle preliminary round beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23.
