FAIRFAX, Va. – Ohio Swimming and Diving performed well for the second straight day at the 2012 George Mason Patriot Invitational on Friday. The Bobcats retained the top spot in the competition and have now scored 588.5 points through two days of events.
Richmond is currently in second place with 405 points while host George Mason sits third with 391.5 points.
Bobcat student-athletes have turned in multiple strong performances throughout the first two days of action, competing well in individual events and relays. Some of the most impressive feats, however, have been achieved from the diving boards. Ohio has dominated the first two days of action from both the one and three meter diving boards.
In the One-Meter Diving competition, Ohio divers claimed the top four spots and five of the best seven scores in the event, generating 80 points for the Green and White. Kristin Capcik earned the top spot in this competition, earning a score of 274.95. Not far behind her were Haleigh Bartlett (270.85), MaryRose Hillstrom (268.65), and Morgan Srail (268.35). Natalie Gray wrapped things up for the Bobcats in this event, placing seventh with a score of 194.35.
From the three-meter board, Ohio did even better. The Bobcats claimed the top six spots in the event, earning an incredible 95 points in the process. Srail took the top spot with a score of 299.60; Bartlett earned second with 276.85; Hillstrom placed third with 271.10; Alexa Gordish earned fourth with 240.10; Gray ended fifth with 237.35, and Capcik placed sixth with a score of 230.90.
Addison Ferguson earned a big victory for the Bobcats in the 100 Butterfly, taking the top spot in a time of 55.33. This was an impressive time for the freshman, tying the fifth fastest 100 Butterfly time in program history.
Rachel Stearns (Minnetonka, Minn.) earned 15 points for the Bobcats in the 100 Backstroke, finishing fourth in a time of 57.43. Anastasia Bocharnikova (ninth), Ferguson (10th), and Haley Clark (11th), also scored in the event, finishing in times of 56.59, 57.27, and 57.63, respectively.
The Bobcats ended the second day of competition on a high note, earning the top spot in the 800 Freestyle Relay. The team of Stephanie Gyurke, Michelle Gasior, Clark, and Katey Brooks finished in 7:35.06, beating the next team by more than two seconds.
