Ohio Remains in Second Following Day Two of Zippy Invite

AKRON, Ohio - Following a strong first day of competition, Ohio Swimming and Diving ended the second day of action Saturday in Akron sitting in second place. Through two days of events, the Bobcats have accumulated 898 total team points.

Toledo remains in first place, having accumulated 1,184 points through two days of competition. The Bobcats hold a narrow lead over Illinois State, who is currently in third with 880.5 points.

Relays remained a strong part of Ohio's success on Day Two, as the Bobcats began Saturday by taking first place in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Addison Ferguson (Westfield Center, Ohio), Anastasia Bocharnikova (Nizhny Tagil, Russia), Deidre Geroni (Emmaus, Pa.), and Lauren Funk (Springfield, Ohio) earned the top spot--and 64 points--in this event by finishing in a meet record time of 1:43.53. This time currently ranks fourth all-time in program history. Earning 12th and the accompanying 30 points in this event was the team of Katie Power, Megan Davis, Caroline Meyer, and Tori Bagan, which finished in a time of 1:49.24.

The `Cats also ended the day with a strong relay performance, as the team of Michelle Gasior (Louisville, Ky.), Stephanie Gyurke (Bellevue, Ohio), Haley Clark (College Station, Texas), and Katey Brooks (North Royalton, Ohio) earned third place in the 800 Freestyle Relay in a time of 7:34.34. This finish earned 54 points for the Bobcats.

Freshman Addy Ferguson placed well in the 100 Butterfly on Saturday evening, taking third and 27 points in a time of 56.30. This was the second-fastest time Ferguson has achieved during the 2012-13 season. She also had a very strong performance in the 100 Backstroke, taking first place and 32 points with her time of 55.69 seconds. This beat her prior season best by nearly two full seconds and is tied for the fifth-fastest time in program history.

Ohio formed a strong pack in the 100 Breaststroke, taking the 10th, 17th, 18th, and 19th spots in the event. Davis placed 10th in 1:06.03; Bocharnikova earned 17th (`C' Final) in 1:05.57; Funk took 18th in 1:05.95, and Bagan placed 19th in 1:06.37.

Bobcat divers combined to score 103 points from the three-meter board on Saturday. Haleigh Bartlett (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) earned second with a 322.15; MaryRose Hillstrom (Dimondale, Mich.) placed third with a 268.50; Morgan Srail earned fourth with a score of 264.05, and Kristin Capcik took eighth with a score of 238.65.
