AKRON, Ohio - Two days into the 2011 Zippy Invitational, Ohio Swimming and Diving has increased its lead atop the pack. The Bobcats are in first place, having earned 1053 team points through 14 events. Ohio is 295.5 points ahead of Toledo, the nearest competitor in the 14-team field.

The Bobcats began the second day of competition on a very strong note, earning second and third place in the 200 medley relay. Rachel Stearns (Avon Lake, Ohio), Tori Bagan (Roanoke, Ind.), Amanda Cecere (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Abby Corcoran (Tucson, Ariz.) finished second in the event, only two-hundredths of a second behind the first-place team from Xavier.

Not far behind these first four Bobcats was the team of Anastasia Bocharnikova (Nizhny Tagil, Russia), Petra Chomicz (King's Lynn, England), Caroline Meyer (Holland, Mich.) and Lauren Funk (Springfield, Ohio), who finished in third with a time of 1:46.00.

Thanks to these two strong relay performances, Ohio picked up 110 team points in one event alone.

Ohio's Sarah Owen (Portsmouth, England) had one of the most impressive performances of the day, finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke to pick up 32 points for the Green and White. She finished the event in 56.10, a time which ranks fifth all-time in Bobcat history.

Not to be overlooked was another first-place finish by one of Ohio's student-athletes, as Morgan Srail (Avon Lake, Ohio) earned top honors in the three-meter diving competition. Srail finished with a very impressive score of 272.90 to pick up 32 more points for the Bobcats.

The third and final day of the 2011 Zippy Invitational will begin Sunday at 9 a.m. Once the preliminary rounds have been completed, final events will begin at 4 p.m.
