FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Ohio University swimming & diving team is spending part of its winter break in beautiful Fort Lauderdale, Fla., taking part in a 12-day training trip.
The Bobcats are training twice a day as they prepare for the spring stretch of their 2013-14 schedule and enjoying the sun and the beach while they are at it.
Several members of the team will be blogging about their experiences in Fort Lauderdale. Sophomore Haley Clark (College Station, Texas) and junior Michelle Gasior (Louisville, Ky.) recapped the weekend.
"Saturday was our sixth day of winter training in the sunny city of Fort Lauderdale. The morning began with a long jog on the beach followed by us running into the ocean, belly flopping into the water and being pounded by the rather large waves. This was followed by us running out of the ocean and transitioning into dry land activities in the sand. The beach drylands were a new and fun twist to a hard winter training. After the beach drylands, we had a tough morning practice of SMU up/down. SMU was a challenging IM set that the entire team did really well on.
Since the weather was rather gloomy, we enjoyed an afternoon of peaceful sleeping and relaxation after our tough, yet successful morning practice. The morning was followed by a tough afternoon practice. The practice consisted of off-the-block swimming, where [interim head coach] Derick [Roe] gave us challenging, yet achievable goal times. We all did really well in practice and achieved our individual goal times as a team, so we were able to enjoy Sunday off from swimming." - Haley
"After six days of hard training, the Bobcats enjoyed a much deserved day off! Thankfully, the weatherman's prediction of thunderstorms was wrong, and we all enjoyed a beautiful, sunny day on the beach. After spending the day riding waves and basking in the sunlight, we spent the rest of the night shopping at the mall. The Bobcats went to sleep with sun-kissed skin, full stomachs and empty wallets." - Michelle
The Bobcats (3-1, 2-0 MAC) will return to competition on Jan. 11, traveling to Denison for a dual meet. The meet is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
