Ohio Swimming & Diving Returns to Action
Jan. 10, 2008
ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio swimming and diving team is set to host its first meet in over two months this weekend, as the Bobcats compete against Denison and Youngstown State at the Ohio Aquatic Center. Ohio begins the week against Denison on Friday at 5 p.m., before facing Youngstown State on Saturday at 2 p.m. This Week at the Aquatic Center Ohio enters this week's action with an overall record of 5-1 and a Mid-American Conference mark of 3-1. The Bobcats cruised to a first-place finish in their last scored meet at the 11-team Zippy Invitational (Nov. 30-Dec. 2), hosted by Akron. Behind seven first place finishes, Ohio totaled 1,588.5 points in the three-day meet, significantly more than second place Buffalo, which finished with 1,289 points. While the Zippy Invitational was Ohio's last scored meet, the Bobcats did anything but rest over the winter break. Instead the team took advantage of the break by traveling to Florida for two weeks of training from Dec. 10 - Dec. 23. The swimmers trained at Pine Crest Preparatory School and the divers trained at the International Hall of Fame pools. The Bobcats also got some competition in while in the Sunshine State, competing against Iowa State on Dec. 17 in a non-scoring meet. Had the meet been scored, the Bobcats and Cyclones would have tied (the meet was limited to only the medley and freestyle relays). The trip wasn't all training though as the Bobcats took a day off and traveled to South Beach to enjoy some time in the sun.
