ATHENS, Ohio – Ohio Swimming and Diving takes to the road on Saturday in search of its third straight dual-meet victory. The Bobcats will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers at 12 p.m. in their final road dual meet of the season.
In their last dual meet, the Bobcats picked up their 12th straight victory over regional rival Marshall on Tuesday night, leaving Huntington with a 167-116 win. Ohio finished with the top time or score in 11 of the day’s 16 events and Kristin Capcik (Milwaukee, Wisc.) set personal bests from both the one and three-meter diving boards, the latter of which is now a new pool record at the Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium.
West Virginia enters Saturday’s dual meet the owner of a 3-3 record. The Mountaineers began the season by winning three of their first four dual meets, but have since lost two in a row at the hands of Pittsburgh (182-118) and TCU (160-140). In tournament competition this season, WVU has fared quite well: the Mountaineers won the West Virginia State Games in October, placed second at the Pitt Invitational in November, earned seventh at the U.S. Winter Nationals in December, and took second at the Orange Bowl Classic in January.
Ohio (2-2) took down West Virginia in Athens on Jan. 27 of last season, beating the Mountaineers by a final score of 178.5-119.5. The Bobcats also won the most recent meeting between the teams in Morgantown, coming away victorious by a score of 176-122 on Jan. 29, 2011.
Following Saturday’s dual meet in Morgantown, Ohio will host five consecutive dual meets in Athens from Feb. 1 – Feb. 9.
