ATHENS, Ohio – Following a week devoid of official competition, Ohio Swimming and Diving kicks it into high gear this weekend to host two dual meets. The Bobcats will welcome West Virginia and Ball State to the Ohio University Aquatic Center on Friday and Saturday to conclude the home portion of their 2011-12 schedule.
The Bobcats have won three straight dual meets and 13 of their last 14 dating back to the 2010-11 season. Ohio’s most recent victory was a lopsided 154-78 win over the visiting Marshall Thundering Herd on Jan. 17. Laurin Williams (Shoreline, Wash.) performed very well in the meet, earning Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors for her victories in the 1650 freestyle and 500 freestyle.
Ohio hosts the West Virginia Mountaineers on Friday afternoon with the first event of the day beginning at 5 p.m. The Mountaineers come to town the owner of a 3-3 record, having recently beaten Pitt and lost to Maryland in dual-meet action. Their trek to Athens marks the end of West Virginia’s regular-season competition, as the Mountaineers will travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. for the Big East Championships in early February.
The Bobcats will then host Ball State on Saturday at 1 p.m. Saturday’s dual meet will be Senior Day for the Ohio student-athletes. Ohio and Ball State last met in dual-meet action during the 2009-10 season, with Ohio coming away victorious by the narrowest of margins, 156-144.
Following these two home meets, Ohio will hit the road to close out the regular season before attempting to defend its conference title at the 2012 MAC Championships in February.
