ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio swimming and diving wraps up the regular season this weekend in the two-day Marshall Invitational in Huntington, W. Va. (Feb. 3-4). This meet will be considered an exhibition meet and will not be officially scored.

The Bobcats head to Huntington coming off a 188-71 home win over Toledo (Jan. 28) where Ohio won every event.

SCOUTING THE THUNDERING HERD
Marshall welcomes Ohio coming off a 144-118 victory over Vanderbilt (Jan. 28) where they secured their fifth at-home win and remain undefeated in their home pool. The Thundering Herd recorded wins in eight of the 14 events and has now defeated three Power Five schools this season including West Virginia, Miami (Fla.) and the Commodores of Vanderbilt.

The Herd set three pool records in the meet. The first was the 200-yard medley relay by the team of Sirena Rowe, Catherine Bendziewicz, Chloe Parsemain and Gloriya Mavrova with a time of 1:43.77. The second was the 50-yard freestyle as Rowe finished at 23.23. The final record was the 200-yard freestyle relay by the team of Lauren Cowher, Mavrova, Bendziewicz and Parsemain at 1:35.16.

Marshal also recorded wins in the following events:

Rowe was named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week for her performance this past week making this her second consecutive award and the Herd’s fifth recognition.

LAST TIME AGAINST MARSHALL
Ohio wrapped up the fall portion of the 2016-17 schedule in at meet at Marshall on Dec. 2 where the ‘Cats fell to the Thundering Herd 173-127. The Bobcats walked away with five first-place finishes, 11 second-place finishes and seven third-place finishes.

SCHOLAR-ATHLETE
For the second week in a row, senior Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, England) was recognized for her successes in the classroom, as well as in the pool, by being named Ohio Scholar-Athlete of the Week along with Bobcat wrestler, Cullen Cummings (Woodbridge, Ill.).

Dawson is a Psychology major and holds a 3.391 grade point average. In last week’s meet against Toledo, the senior won all three of the events she competed in.

UP NEXT
The close of this Invite marks the end of the 2016-17 Ohio regular season. The Bobcats will then have two weeks to prepare for the Mid-American Conference Championships in Oxford, Ohio (Feb. 22-25) hosted by Miami.
