ATHENS, Ohio – Putting its five-meet winning streak on the line, the Ohio University Swimming and Diving Team ends its dual-meet schedule with two home contests this weekend. The Bobcats will host Youngstown State on Friday at 5 p.m. before taking on Mid-American Conference rival Miami on Saturday at noon. Both competitions will take place at Ohio University’s Aquatic Center.

The Bobcats are coming off a very strong week during which they defeated Xavier (137.5-113.5) on Feb. 1 and 2011-12 MAC champion Toledo (170-130) on Feb. 2 to continue their impressive winning streak. Ohio (5-2, 1-1 MAC) has not experienced defeat in dual-meet competition since a Nov. 10, 2012 loss to Ohio State.

As if the program’s first win over Toledo since 2008 wasn’t enough, the Green and White collected an individual accolade from the conference office on Wednesday when Anastasia Bocharnikova (Nizhny Tagil, Russia) was named MAC Swimmer of the Week. This was the second week in a row which saw a Bobcat claim the honor and is the third such recognition for an Ohio swimmer or diver this season.

Youngstown State enters Friday’s meet the owner of a 4-5 mark which includes a 2-3 record in Horizon League competition. The Penguins are currently on a four-meet losing streak, having ended up on the wrong end of the scoreboard against Cleveland State (204-96), UIC (187.5-112.5), Green Bay (175-123), and Bowling Green (163-122). In tournament competition this season, the Penguins placed sixth at the Cleveland State Invitational back in mid-November.

Miami presents an exciting challenge for Ohio’s 2013 Senior Day celebration, as the RedHawks are a strong 9-1 on the year with a spotless 5-0 mark in MAC dual meets. Last experiencing defeat on Oct. 19 against Purdue, Miami has won nine straight dual meets heading into Saturday’s competition. Ohio and Miami have had a great swimming and diving rivalry over the years, with the teams splitting the last two meetings. Ohio won 163-135 in Oxford during the 2010-11 season and the RedHawks emerged victorious in 2011-12, earning a 160-140 home victory over the Bobcats.

On Saturday, Ohio will celebrate the careers of a strong senior class of student-athletes, as Anastasia Bocharnikova (Nizhny Tagil, Russia), Katey Brooks (North Royalton, Ohio), Lauren Funk (Springfield, Ohio), Deidre Geroni (Emmaus, Pa.), Alexa Gordish (North Canton, Ohio), Caroline Meyer (Holland, Mich.), and Katie Power (Ottawa, Ontario) will be swimming their final home meet for Ohio.
