ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women’s swimming and diving team looks to earn its 12th Mid-American Conference title in program history this week as the team travels to Oxford, Ohio to compete in the 2017 MAC Championships. Hosted by Miami, competition begins on Wed., Feb. 22 and runs through Sat., Feb. 27 inside Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center.

LAST YEAR AT MACS
Ohio finished the 2016 MAC Championships in sixth with 346.5 points. Last year featured returning sophomore Corrin Van Lanen (Green Bay, Wis.) being named All-MAC First Team and gradate Addison Ferguson and senior Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, Eng.) being named to the Second Team.

As a unit, the Bobcats recorded 10 top-five finishes and seven top-ten finishes throughout the week.

THE 2016-2017 SEASON
The 2016-17 regular season featured all-star performances from a number of Bobcats.

Van Lanen added her name to the All-Time top-10 performance list in the 50-yard freestyle with her performance at the Louisville Invitational (Nov. 18-20) where she swam a 23.05 to land her sixth all-time. The sophomore is also listed in the 100-yard butterfly as the sixth-best with a 54.27 time and the eighth-best with a 54.65 time.

Freshman Emily Zimcosky (Smock, Pa.) swam the 10th-best time in program history or 23.27 also at the Louisville Invitational. In her debut season, Zimcosky holds the sixth-best all-time performance in the 200-yard freestyle when she recorded a time of 1:48.41 at the Louisville Invitational and has also recorded the sixth-best performance in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.86 posted at the Marshall Invite (Feb. 3-4).

Junior Caroline Raley (Mobile, Ala.) recorded the 10th-best time in program history at the Louisville Invitational where she swam the 100-yard backstroke and finished with a 56.00 time.

Senior Laura Dawson (Newcastle Upon Tyne, Eng.) is now the sixth-best in program history in the 200-yard backstroke with her performance at the Louisville Invitational where she swam a 1:59.78.

Redshirt junior Hannah Shinn (Waterloo, Ill.) became the eighth-best in program history in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:04.48 time swam at the Louisville Invitational.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Ohio’s team of Mikayla Herich (Hebron, Ky.), Raley, Van Lanen and Zimcosky had the ninth-best performance in program history at the Louisville Invitational where they swam a time of 1:43.44.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Herich, Van Lanen, Lexie White (Waxhaw, N.C.) and Zimcosky became ninth-best in program history with a 3:24.93 performance at the Louisville Invitational. 

DIVING IN
Sophomore Olivia Dillon (Newcastle, Aus.) is now listed in both the one- and three-meter categories as the sixth-best (285.05) and the ninth-best (279.98) in the program’s diving history. 

THE BASICS
The 2017 Mid-American Conference Championships will begin on Wed., Feb. 22 and continue through Sat., Feb. 25. Doors open at 6 p.m. on Wed. for the general public with the championship heat of the 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay beginning at 7 p.m. For viewers unable to make the trip to Oxford, the events will be available Thursday, Friday and Saturday on ESPN3.
