ATHENS, Ohio - A trio of Ohio University divers competed at the 2013 USA Diving National Preliminary Zone A Championships on the campus of Virginia Tech University this past weekend. Rising juniors Morgan Srail and Haleigh Bartlett took part in the competition while rising senior Kristin Capcik also participated.
Each of the three divers competed from both the one and three-meter springboards in the competition. From the one-meter board, Srail (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished 17th with a score of 197.65, Bartlett (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio) took 20th with 193.70 points, and Capcik (Milwaukee, Wis.), just returning from an injury, took 28th with a final score of 181 points.
The three-meter board was where the Bobcats really had the opportunity to shine. Srail led the way from this height, placing sixth in the preliminary round with a score of 251.90. This qualified her for the final round of the competition where she would ultimately place ninth with a final score of 243.10. Capcik and Barlett also competed from the three-meter board, taking 30th and 35th with scores of 187.45 and 167.60, respectively.
Ohio opens the 2013-14 season with its annual intra-squad meet on Oct. 11. The `Cats will officially begin the year with a dual meet at Mid-American Conference rival Ball State on Oct. 26.
