ATHENS, Ohio -
Ohio swimming and diving continues to put its face on the national swimming scene as four Bobcats will compete at the 2010 Conoco Phillips National Championships Aug. 3-7 in Irvine, Calif.
Anne Donovan, Rachel Heim, Amanda Traylor and Annika Games will all represent Ohio at the event. Lauren Funk also qualified for the Championships in the 50 Freestyle, but will not compete.
Donovan, a Findlay, Ohio, native will swim in the 50 Free. She completed a solid sophomore campaign this past season in which she captured Mid-American Conference championships in the 50 Free and as part of the `Cats' 200 Free relay team. She swam a personal-best 22.69 in the 50 Free at the MAC Championships.
A San Diego, Calif., product, Heim will compete in the 100 Fly and the 100 Backstroke. She also qualified in the 200 Fly, but will not be competing in it. The reigning MAC Co-Swimmer of the Year, Heim won a team-leading four conference titles this past season, including the 100 Fly, 100 Back, 200 Fly and 200 Free Relay. She holds Ohio records in both the 100 Back at 54.63 and in the 100 Fly at 53.26.
Traylor (Los Alamitos, Calif.) will take part in the 200 Free, 400 Free and 400 Individual Medley. A versatile swimmer for the `Cats, she swam in 10 different events throughout this past season and finished second in the 200 Free, 500 Free and 800 Free Relay at the MAC Championships. She holds personal bests of 1:47.67 in the 200 Free, 4:47.16 in the 500 Free and 4:17.75 in the 400 IM.
Games, a native of Brea, Calif., will compete as part of teams in the 4x100 Free and the 4x200 Free Relays. She placed eighth in the 200 Back and 15th in the 500 Free at the MAC Championships this past season and holds personal bests of 24.88 in the 50 Free and 1:51.79 in the 200 Free.
Funk qualified for the Championships in the 50 Free, but will not be competing. The Springfield, Ohio, native enjoyed a strong freshman campaign for the `Cats during the 2009-10 season, finishing fifth in the 50 Free and 10th in the 100 Free at the MAC Championships. She has a personal best of 22.90 in the 50 Free.
Ohio's four competitors will join many of the top swimmers around the country in the most prestigious long-course event of the year for USA Swimming. In addition to serving as a selection meet for this year's Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, it will also serve as a gauge for next year's World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Trials.
