Meyo Invitational Complete Results | YSU National Invitational Complete Results
NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Ohio University women’s track and field team wrapped up the final day of this weekend’s split-squad road trip with strong finishes at the Meyo Invitational in Notre Dame, Ind., and the YSU National Invitational in Youngstown, Ohio.
At the Meyo Invitational, Ohio juniors Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) and Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) impressed with top-10 finishes against some of the best competition in the nation.
Accurso placed fourth in the 3,000m with a time of 9:32.92, which marked the second-fastest time in the event among MAC student-athletes this season. Accurso easily qualified for the MAC Indoor Championships later this month.
Thompson finished seventh in the prestigious Meyo Mile (1 mile run) with a personal-best time of 4:49.24, which bested her previous high mark of 4:50.90. It was the second-fastest mile time in the MAC this season.
“We had some excellent performances this weekend, especially from Juli and Melissa,” Ohio head coach Clay Calkins said. “For Juli’s first race of the season, I was happy with her fourth-place finish.”
Senior Ashley Waddington (Sandusky, Ohio) also recorded a personal-best time in the unseeded 3,000m run, finishing 24th in 10:14.24.
YSU NATIONAL INVITATIONAL
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - At the YSU National Invitational, the Bobcats finished sixth out of 10 teams after Saturday’s final day of competition. Bucknell won the event with 150.16 points.
“Our performances in the distance races were solid,” said Ohio throws coach Nick Pero. “Overall, it was a good meet and sets us up for another week of training heading into next weekend’s events.”
Day two was highlighted by freshman Krista Roehlig (Uniontown, Ohio), who finished fourth in the 5,000m in a personal-best time of 18:01.97 to pick up five points for Ohio. Roehlig also picked up a 12th-place finish in the 5,000m (10:33.08).
Senior Lauren Adkins (Gallipolis, Ohio) earned a ninth-place finish in the 5,000m (19:28.44), while freshman Kristin Winkel (Avon Lake, Ohio) placed fifth in the 60m hurdles (9:23) to earn four points for Ohio.
Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.) performed well in both of her events, as the talented sophomore placed fourth in the shot put (12.76m) and third in the weight throw (15.56m) to garner a total of 10 points for Ohio.
The Bobcats return to action Friday (Feb. 8) and Saturday (Feb. 9) at the Hoosier Hills event in Bloomington, Ind.
