Bobcats Wrap Up Competition At YSU, Meyo Invites

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Ohio University women’s track team hit the road this weekend to compete in the YSU National Mid-Major Invite and earned a series of strong finishes.

The two-day meet held many successes for the Bobcats as they make trek their way through the 2013-2014 indoor season.

In addition, senior Melissa Thompson competed in the one mile run at the prestigious Meyo Invitational Saturday in Notre Dame, Ind., and placed 25th out of 48 runners in a time of 5:03.73.

In Youngstown, junior Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) set a new personal best bringing home first in the long jump with a distance of 5.72m on Friday. On Saturday, she also placed third in the high jump (1.65m) and 60m hurdles (8.9 seconds).

Sophomore Kristin Winkel (Avon Lake, Ohio) also placed fourth in the 60m hurdles, just behind Cuckler with a time of 9.01 seconds.

The Ohio 4,000m DMR team finished third at the YSU Invite in a time of 12:27.96. 

In the 3,000m, the Bobcats put together a pair of top-10 finishes, led by sophomore Krista Roehlig (Uniontown, Ohio) would placed fifth in a personal-best time of 10:18.59, while sophomore Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) finished sixth in 10:26.07.

Sophomore Erika Armstead (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned a 10th place finish in the triple jump Saturday with a mark of 10.46m.

On Friday, junior Donyelle Brown (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) also assisted in bringing home the honors in field events. Brown placed first in the weight throw with a distance of 17.45m. On Saturday, Brown earned a fifth-place finish in the shot put (13.08m), while junior Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.) placed sixth in 13.07m.

Next weekend the Bobcats will head to Geneva, Ohio to compete in the SPIRE Division I T&F Invitational. The events will take place Feb. 14-15 at the SPIRE Institute.
