GENEVA, Ohio – Junior Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) etched her name into the Ohio University women’s track & field record books while leading the Bobcats Friday at the SPIRE Division I Indoor Track & Field Invitational.
Cuckler posted 3,732 points in the event, shattering the previous school record of 3,614 set in 1993 by Donita Barnes. Cuckler’s previous personal best was 3,458 points, which she set at last season’s YSU Invite.
Cuckler placed third overall in the pentathlon, ahead of student-athletes from Notre Dame, Michigan State and Pittsburgh, among others.
The junior tied for first in the high jump (1.71m) portion of the event and finished second in the 60m hurdles (8.81) while posting personal bests in both competitions. She also placed third in the long jump portion with a jump of 5.52m.
A number of other Ohio student-athletes competed Friday, including junior Donyelle Brown, who placed 12th in the weight throw with a mark of 16.94m.
In addition, sophomore Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) placed 15th out of 28 competitors in the 5,000m run, while fellow sophomore Krista Roehlig (Uniontown, Ohio) was 19th after crossing the finish line in 17:48.46. The time by Scott automatically qualified her for the upcoming MAC Indoor Championships.
