GENEVA, Ohio - The Bobcats are headed back to Athens after completing their second and final day of competition at the SPIRE Division I Track & Field Invitational in Geneva, Ohio, Saturday.
Leading the way for Ohio, senior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) came just shy of a top-10 finish by placing 13th in the women's one mile run. She reigned in five seconds short of her personal best time with a mark of 4:53.87. The time automatically qualified her for the upcoming MAC Indoor Championships.
The 4x400m relay team came in third in their heat and 20th overall with a time of 4:02.61 just over two seconds behind their best time of 4:00 this season.
The team was led by Delaney Bolger (Lebanon,Ohio) and assisted by freshmen Amanda Sacha (Lakewood, Ohio), Tajah Smith (Copely, Ohio) and sophomore Haley Stegemiller (Lebanon, Ohio).
In field events, junior Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.) finished 15th with a throw of 13.01m, while Olivia Mayfield finished 19th in the long jump with a mark of 5.30m.
Friday’s prime performer was junior Chanda Cuckler, who finished third in the pentathlon while breaking the Ohio school record previously set in 1993.
Next Friday the Bobcats will conclude the 2013-2014 indoor season at the OSU Open in Columbus before heading to MAC Championships.
