MAC Indoor Day 1 Results
YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Ohio University distance medley relay team etched itself into the program's history books with a school-record finish on day one of the MAC Indoor Championships Friday at Bowen Fieldhouse.
The quartet of junior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio), senior Kiley Mathews (Cortland, Ohio), senior Danielle Winningham (Barboursville, W. Va.) and junior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) captured the DMR title Friday in 11:26.80, shattering the previous program record (11:33.39) by close to seven seconds. The time was the 24th fastest in the nation this season.
It marked the third-straight season that the Bobcats won the DMR title at the MAC Indoor Championships. The finish also set a new MAC Indoor Championships record, as the Bobcats set the meet mark last season with their time of 11:33.39.
The first-place finish earned the Bobcats 10 of the team's 12 points on the day and helped Ohio claim an eighth-place finish after day one competition in Ypsilanti. Kent State leads the event with 58 points.
Ohio's other two points came from sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio), who finished seventh in the pentathlon. Cuckler placed fourth in the high jump portion of the pentathlon with a 1.60m leap. Cuckler totaled 2,835 points to finish seventh.
Teammate Hayley Stegemiller (Lebanon, Ohio) finished 12th in the pentathlon (2,940). Stegemiller finished fourth in the 800m portion of the event in 2:25.19.
The Ohio duo of sophomore Morgan Reichert (Pataskala, Ohio) and freshman Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) placed ninth and tenth in the 5,000m run. Reichert crossed the finish line in 17:17.87, while Scott placed in 17:17.90.
In field action, senior Alexis Geiger (Gallipolis, Ohio) placed 10th in the long jump with a 5.46m performance.
The Bobcats wrap up the MAC Indoor Championships Saturday (Feb. 23).
