AKRON, OHIO - Ohio's distance medley relay team of Melissa Thompson, Juli Accurso, Hope McCarty and Kiley Mathews set a new mark for excellence at the 2012 Mid-American Track and Field Championships in Akron, Ohio. After the first day of competition, the Bobcats sit in eighth place.

In the final event of the night, Ohio's relay team broke the MAC meet record on an oversize track by 2.16 seconds The Bobcat quartet finished the event in a time of 11:33.39, breaking Miami's mark that had stood for the past 15 years. The win for Ohio marked only the second time in MAC history that a team defended the women's distance medley title.

Ohio also had success in the 5000m run with three Bobcats placing in the top 10. Emily Pifer finished sixth with a PR time of 17:20.66 and Morgan Reichert had a PR time of 17:36.50 to finish eighth. Allison Stillwell placed 10th with a season best time of 17:48.85.

The Bobcats had two more top-10 finishes on the evening with Alexis Geiger leaping a season-best 5.58 meters to place ninth in the long jump. Kristen Mason was 10th in the weight throw, finishing just ahead of teammates Donyelle Brown and Lauren McCullough.

Brittany Tyree and Chanda Cuckler each took part in the pentathlon for Ohio. Tyree placed second in the 800m and fifth in the shot put portions while Cuckler finished fourth in the high jump portion.
