Accurso Shines on Final Day of MAC Championships

Juli Accurso won the 3k and placed second in the mile for the Bobcats.

AKRON, Ohio - Four Ohio Bobcats were named to the 2012 Women's Indoor Track and Field All-MAC Team this evening as the team finished competition at the league championships in Akron. Sophomore Juli Accursohighlighted the day by winning the 3k and placing second in the mile.

Accurso cruised to victory in the 3k, earning a vital 10 points for the Bobcats by dominating the field with a time of 9:33.46. She won the event by a full 15 seconds over her nearest competitor. The sophomore finished second in the mile with a time of 4:48.32, less than a second off the winner and MAC record holder from Toledo, Emma Kertesz

The Bobcats also gained vital points from Melissa Thompsonin the mile as the sophomore finished fifth with a season-best run of 4:54.85. The performances of Accurso and Thompson, along with the DMR outing from Friday, had the Bobcats in a tie for second.

Emily Pifer earned another point for Ohio in the 3k with a PR of 10:00.06. Thompson finished 13th in the event. Ashley Waddingtonhad a PR in the mile event with a time of 5:11.44.

Ohio's 4x4 team had its best time of the season, finishing in 3:53.88. Janiece Rose, Kristen Mason and Donyelle Brown all finished in the top 15 of the shot put and Chanda Cuckler finished in a tie for 13th in the high jump with teammate Serena Warner.
