DAY ONE RESULTS

KENT, Ohio - The Ohio University Women’s Track & Field team is giving its best effort this weekend as the Bobcats wrap up their 2013-2014 indoor season at the MAC Championships in Kent, Ohio.

The team ended a successful day one at the Kent State Field House in sixth place Friday with a collective 14 points.

On the track, the 4000m distance medley relay quartet of seniors Kara Jackson (Bidwell,Ohio), Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio), Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) and junior Delaney Bolger (Lebanon, Ohio) approached their MAC record from last season’s indoor meet en route to a third place finish. The group crossed the line in a time of 11:32.04.

Junior Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) placed seventh in the women’s pentathlon with a score of 3,652 earning two points for the Bobcats. Cuckler finished in the top-5 in four of the five pentathlon events.

She was joined by teammates freshman Mackenzie Rankin (Louisville, Ohio) and sophomore Hayley Stegemiller (Lebanon, Ohio). Stegemiller placed 14th with a score of 3,170 and Rankin took 17th with 2,761.

In the 5000m run, sophomore Caroline Hildebrand placed sixth earning Ohio three points with a time of 17.02.54. Fellow sophomore Krista Roehlig (Uniontown, Ohio) placed 11th with a time of 17.37.98.

In field events, sophomore Donyelle Brown (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) put forth a strong sixth-place finish in the weight throw after setting a new record for Ohio last week at the Ohio State Tune-up in Columbus. She reigned in a throw of 18.06m earning three points for the Bobcats. Smith was joined in the top-10 by teammate junior Janiece Rose (Franklinville, Ohio) who took 10th place with a throw of 16.67m.

In the long jump, Olivia Mayfield set a new personal best with a height of 5.51m taking 10th place as well.

The Bobcats will continue to compete tomorrow with women’s events starting at 11:05 a.m. with the shot put finals where sophomore Donyelle Brown (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and junior Janiece Rose (Franklinville,Ohio) will be set to compete.

Senior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) also defend her 2013 title in the one mile run while fellow senior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) will look to repeat her 2013 3,000m championship as well.
