NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Junior Juli Accurso finished fourth in the 5,000m run to lead Ohio at the Alex Wilson Invitational this weekend at the University of Notre Dame's Loftus Center.
Accurso crossed the finish line in a season-best 16:13.56 Friday to post the best time amongst MAC competitors this season. She placed in front of runners from Oklahoma State, Iowa State, Northwestern and a host of other major conference programs.
"We had some very solid performances in the 5,000m, highlighted by Juli's effort" head coach Clay Calkins said. "She missed an NCAA berth by just 14 seconds. This meet prepares us for the outdoor season which begins in two weeks at Wake Forest."
Sophomore Morgan Reichert (Pataskala, Ohio) joined Accurso in the 5,000m and finished 18th in 17:30.50.
Fresh off her record-breaking victory at last weekend's MAC Indoors, junior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) placed 13th in the one mile run Saturday in 4:50.84. It was her third-best time in the event this season. Freshman Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester, Ohio) finished 20th in a personal-best time of 4:56.57.
Danielle Winningham (Barboursville, W. Va.) was Ohio's lone competitor in Saturday's 800m run and the senior finished 36th in 2:17.46.
Now that the indoor season is complete, the Bobcats begin outdoor competition at the Wake Forest Open March 15-16 in Winston-Salem, N.C.
