Track Wraps Up Day One At Stanford, Winthrop

The Ohio University women's track and field team wrapped up day one competition Friday at the Stanford Invitational and Winthrop Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and Rock Hill, S.C., respectively.


Four Ohio student-athletes competed at the Stanford Invitational on Friday.

Junior Juli Accurso (Casstown, Ohio) finished 20th in the highly competitive Section 1 of the 10,000m run by crossing the finish line in 33:52.33. Accurso's time was just two seconds off of the Ohio school record and puts her in strong position to earn an NCAA first round berth in the event.

Freshman Kayla Scott (Canal Winchester) performed well in her 3,000m steeplechase debut, finishing 13th in a competitive Section 3 field with a time of 10:57.30. It was the second-fastest time for an Ohio student-athlete over the past two outdoor seasons and automatically qualified her for the MAC Outdoor Championships in the event.

Junior Melissa Thompson (Westerville, Ohio) placed 14th in the Section 4 final of the 5,000m run with a personal best time of 17:05.32.

Wrapping up the Ohio field in Stanford, sophomore Morgan Reichert (Pataskala, Ohio) finished 30th in Section 4 of the 10,000m with a time of 36:05.70.


ROCK HILL, S.C. - Ohio student-athletes dominated the 5,000m run and earned a number of strong finishes on day one of the Winthrop Invitational.

The Bobcats placed four runners in the top-10 of the 5,000m, led by second-place finisher Krista Roehlig (Uniontown, Ohio), who placed in a time of 17:47.09. Junior Morgan Meade (Marion, Ohio) finished third in 17:51.03 while senior Ashley Waddington (Sandusky, Ohio) placed fourth in 18:05.80. Freshman Caroline Hildebrand (Hilliard, Ohio) rounded out the Ohio top-10 in ninth (18:55.03).

In addition, sophomore Janiece Rose (Franklinville, N.J.) won the shot put with a throw of 12.68m. It marked her first top-finish of the 2013 season.

Sophomore Chanda Cuckler (Athens, Ohio) earned a second-place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.65m.

Senior Alexis Geiger (Gallipolis, Ohio) finished second in the long jump (5.71m), while sophomore Morgan Overbey (Newark, Ohio) placed sixth in the event with a leap of 5.19m.

Senior Lauren McCullough (Lancaster, Ohio) finished sixth in the hammer throw (46.50m) to wrap up Ohio competition in the field events.

The Bobcats return to action Saturday with the finals of a number of events at the Winthrop Invitational.
