Winthrop Invitational Results

ATHENS, Ohio - Ohio Track and Field has split up this weekend to compete at two events down in the Carolinas. The Bobcats have a contingent competing at the Raleigh Relays, while the rest of the squad is at the Winthrop Invitational.

Two Ohio student-athletes earned victories in Rock Hill with Brittany Tyree winning the long jump and Ashley Waddington taking the 5k. Tyree’s leap was a personal best of 5.48 meters while Waddington won her event by 15 seconds.

Freshman Chanda Cuckler placed third in the high jump with a leap of 1.65 meters and Emily Skidmore earned Ohio’s fourth top-10 finish after placing ninth in the 5k. Tyree added to her day’s work with an 11th place finish in the shot put.

Meanwhile at North Carolina State University’s Paul Derr Track, Janiece Rose earned a top-10 mark for the ‘Cats with a throw of 13.55 meters in the shot put. Donyelle Brown was the best Ohio performer in the discus with a personal best throw of 38.30 meters.

In distance events, Melissa Thompson placed 13th in the 3k steeplechase with a PR time of 11:01.45. Emily Pifer finished 18th in the 10k, achieving her personal best by almost a full minute, and Morgan Reichert eclipsed her PR mark by almost 45 seconds.

Both meets resume tomorrow with the Winthrop Invitational starting at 9:30 a.m. and the Raleigh Relays beginning at 10 a.m.
